ABOUT US

Villervalla is a magical world. A world created of colorful fantasies and liberating childishness. A world where games and adventure never end. A world where every child can join in, where every child is welcome. So step into the magical world of Villervalla - a world where kids are always kids.

Villervalla is a company with strong values. We stand for joy, optimism and equality. We are inclusive and inviting. We are a brand that is on the children’s side. All of this is apparent in Villervalla’s colorful and playful children’s clothes.

Clothes for kids

What do we mean when we say “clothes for kids”? First and foremost it is a clear explanation of what we do, but we also think about it in a few additional steps. We design and create children’s clothing for all children from newborn up to 12 years. We believe that all children can wear all the colors of the rainbow. You can mix and match clothes across the whole collection, and the fit of the clothes suites both boys and girls. We create comfortable, stylish, durable and fun clothes. It is very important to us that our garments are free from harmful chemicals. The majority of our clothes are organic and Oeko-Tex certified. This is what we mean when we say that we make clothes for kids.

Company Background

The CEO and founder of Villervalla, Hanna Håkansson, opened up a children's shop in 1999, and quickly realized that there was a lack of well designed, unisex clothing that would work well for every day use as well as for special occasions. The idea of Villervalla was born. Combining her experience as a shop owner with a strong will, Hanna released her first Villervalla-collection in 2005. The beautiful, comfortable clothes and unique mix & match-concept became a big success. The business then quickly grew to include several own stores and many retailers around Europe.

Awards

In 2010, 2011, 2012 and 2013 Villervalla received Dagen's Industri's prestigious Gazell-award. Hanna also received the Ernst & Young-award "Emerging Female Entrepreneur in the western region of Sweden" in 2011, and Veckans Affärer's award "Årets Superföretag" (Super-company of the year) 2014.

Where to find us

Villervalla is based in the picturesque old part of Gothenburg called Haga. A design/product development studio, the administrative office, a concept store and an outlet are all situated here. Another concept store can be found in Alingsås.

Our Responsibilities

Toxic-free Clothes

We feel that it is important that the clothes we create are not only beautiful and comfortable, but also made with the children's, and environment's best in mind. We perform thorough tests on all our products through an independent testing company to ensure that there are no toxic substances present. A practice we have applied since the start in 2005. Most of our products are certified with Oeko-Tex® Standard 100. Oeko-Tex® is an independent organization ensuring that no harmful substances are present in the clothes. The information about the certifications can be found in the material description on the product pages.

Organic

The main part of our collection is made with organic cotton. This cotton is grown without any pesticides or chemical additives. This creates cotton that is free from toxins, heavy metals and genetically modified organisms. To be able to label a garment organic, the production process also has to be completely free from harmful substances. We are expanding our organic programs even more in upcoming collections and our goal is to eventually be able to offer a completely organic collection.

Green denim

Our denim is Green denim certified. This means that the production process is more environmental friendly through, among other things, reduced water consumption during production. Read more

Social Responsibility

Our Chinese and Indian suppliers are certified BCSI and our Turkish supplier follow the Sedex-code. These different certifications ensure that the factories employ ethical business practices when it comes to the welfare and safety of their employees, as well as offering reasonable work hours and wages. We Help

At Villervalla we feel that it is important to help, and we do this through carefully selected partners. We donate Villervalla clothes through Litauenhjälpen in Olofström, and Great Andoh International School in Ghana. Great Andoh is a Swedish-Ghanaian operated school and orphanage for children age 1-18 years, founded by Emelie Kanter from Gothenburg. We also sponsor a project called Läs för barn (Read to kids). They donate books to pre-school aged children.

For several years we have been donating money to Unicef or similar causes instead of giving corporate Christmas gifts to our employees and collaborative partners.

In our concept stores we sell lovely post cards from Hjärtegryn to benefit children with heart conditions. Hjärtegryn is a non-profit organization started in 2009 by Helena Någård, mother of a child born with a heart defect. The money from the post card sales goes to the Child- and Youth hospital in Lund, one of only two hospitals in Sweden where they perform operations on children with heart conditions. The wonderful children on the post cards were created by designer and illustrator Johanna Lundqvist.
