Winter clothes – How to dress your baby properly
Wondering how to dress your baby in the winter so that it is warm and happy? Follow our guide, to find out!
Buggy bag or overall?
During a walk, when the baby is in the baby stroller, a buggy bag is a good alternative, as the heat can be regulated via the bag being opened or closed and the baby does not grow out of it as fast as with an overall, but the buggy bag does not cover the whole body. Put your hand on his neck - if the baby is sweaty it is too hot and if the neck is cold, well, then the baby is too cold dressed. You should dress the baby like you dress yourself – and add one more layer. But if you are active and the baby is in the stroller, he/she's obviously colder than you and may need more clothes and blankets. However, a winter overall and a buggy bag can get way too hot when wearing them at the same time, especially if it is a mild winter. If you have got an active baby who likes to be held up to see the world, a comfortable winter overall may be more suitable, and you can then supplement with blankets in the stroller instead. It's a good idea to have a thick cushion or blanket under the buggy bag, so the baby is protected from the cold from below.
The three-layer-principle
In Sweden's changing weather, it can quickly change from freezing cold to slightly warmer temperatures. By dressing the baby according to the three-layer principle, you can quickly regulate the heat for the little one.Layer 1 - Here you can use a soft set with body and trousers or a soft bodysuit. If it is mild temperature outside, garments in cotton is perfect and chose those made by wool when it's cold. Wool is naturally moisture-transporting and keeps the body warm. Layer 2 - If it's cold outside, use a second layer, such as a knitted sweater / overall or soft fleece. Layer 3 - The outer layer should protect against all kinds of weathers. If you use a buggy bag, a wind fleece overall can do the job, if not you choose a wind and waterproof winter overall. Remember that the overalls should have taped seams and be spacious enough, so that it does not become too "sausage" with the clothes underneath.
Which cap and overall should I choose for my baby in winter?
Feel free to use a hat in wool or fleece, helmet hats that go down over the ears heats and fit well. Since babies don't have the ability to regulate heat, they are more sensitive to both heat and cold than older children and adults. They also get cold hands and feet more easily since they don't have a fully developed blood circulation, and they easily lose heat. Therefore, pick warm clothes for the baby in the winter; fleece overalls, wool overalls and wind fleece overalls are perfect when the baby lays in a buggy bag. For a newborn baby, it can be practical to bring a couple of extra blankets.Put your hand on the neck to check the temperature and check the diaper from time to time, as moisture cools the body. Also, do not forget gloves and warm socks or booties for the baby's hands and feet.We hope you and your baby will have many wonderful walks together this winter!
