Washing advice – how to wash in an environmentally friendly way

A family with children washes an average of 1.4 tonnes of clothes, towels and sheets every year in Sweden, which affects the environment a lot. By washing in the right way, you do both the environment, the clothes and the wallet a favor. Here are some helpful tips on how to wash clothes properly

  • All new clothes should be washed before use to eliminate any excess-colour.
  • It is possible to wash our cotton clothes in 60 degrees, but we recommend 40 degrees as it means less tearing and risk of shrinkage. Also colourful garment tend to keep colour better if washed in lower temperatures, and of course, it is better for the environment.
  • When washing colourful clothes, use non-bleach detergents and dose after recommendation.
  • Dark and rich colours should be washed separately the first time.
  • Always wash printed garment inside out. This will keep the colours vibrant. All clothes are actually well off by being washed inside out, but it is an absolute must for printed garment!
  • Remove your clean laundry from the washing mashine as soon as it is done. If wet garments are left in the mashine there is a risk they will be discoloured.
  • Make sure to close buttons and zippers. This will minimize tearing of garment.
  • When treating stains, please remove the stain as soon as possible and try not to rub it as that could make it go deeper into the fabric.
  • Please note that fleece- and function-garment (such as outerwear) should not be washed with softeners. Avoid tumbling and high-temperature drying cabinets, as this might affect the functional properties of the garment.
  • Stretch clothes when wet, and they will keep their shape even better!
  • Drying your laundry outside is a good thing, and environmentally friendly, too. Just make sure it doesn’t dry in direct sunlight as it may have a bleaching effect on the clothes.
  • If you wish to iron your clothes, just follow the instructions given on the care label.
