A softshell jacket is the ultimate choice when the weather is changeable. It is softer than a traditional shell jacket, fully windproof and resists lighter rain, while ventilating excess heat when the child is moving. At Villervalla, you will find softshell jackets that combine function with playful design, perfect for everything from the sandpit to forest outings.
Many of our styles have a thin fleece lining on the inside, giving that extra warmth and cosy feeling on chilly mornings without the jacket feeling heavy or restrictive in any way.
Softshell is often the “just right” outerwear garment many people are looking for: warmer and softer than a shell garment, but still light and easy to move in. This makes a softshell jacket a popular choice during spring and autumn, and as outerwear on milder winter days with the right layers underneath. Match with softshell trousers.
Villervalla's softshell jackets for children are made for active everyday life. The material protects against wind and handles moisture and drizzle, while the jacket breathes when the child runs, climbs and plays. Many styles have, for example:
Softshell works excellently with layers underneath. When it is cooler, you can add fleece or a sweater, and when it gets warmer, the jacket is often enough on its own. This makes the softshell jacket a flexible garment that is used a lot during large parts of the year.
Our outerwear contains no perfluorinated substances (such as PFOS and PFOA). Instead, polyurethane coating is used to help stop moisture. To preserve function and fit:
When is a softshell jacket best - spring, autumn or winter?
It is best during spring and autumn. In mild winter weather, it also works excellently with a thicker fleece underneath.
Are softshell jackets waterproof or only water resistant?
They are water resistant (5,000 mm water column). They handle drizzle and wet weather well, but in persistent heavy rain we recommend a shell jacket with a higher water column.
How warm is a softshell jacket compared with a shell jacket?
Softshell is warmer because the material is thicker and often has a soft brushed inside or a thin fleece lining.
Do softshell jackets breathe well?
Breathability is one of the biggest advantages of softshell material, making it perfect for children who run, jump and climb a lot.
Do Villervalla's softshell jackets have detachable hoods?
Yes, for safety reasons all our hoods are detachable so they come loose if the child gets caught on something during play.
Why should fabric softener be avoided when washing?
Fabric softener forms a film over the fabric fibres, which means the jacket stops “breathing” and loses its ability to transport moisture away.
Do the jackets contain PFOS or PFOA?
No, all our outerwear is completely free from harmful fluorocarbons.
